The Lived Experience of a Male with Borderline Personality Disorder

This was a group project. The brief was to document the lived experience of a person living with specific mental disorder. The disorder we chose to examine was Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). As part of a team of 3 students, I carried out a qualitative thematic analysis of a blog from an online source. As much of the online material focuses on women with BPD we decided to research an online blog written by a male with the disorder. The blog describes this man’s experience of living with BPD. We identified four main themes pertaining to the disorder were identified using wordcloud. The findings of our study concur with previous research; BPD is a psychiatric condition characterised by a lack of a clear sense of identity, conflicted relationships, poorly regulated emotions and irrational behaviours. Stigma is attached to the condition, both among health care professionals, and the general public.
